Oprah Winfrey to Return?
Jan 1 marks the first anniversary of Oprah Winfrey cable channel. With an expenditure of $254 million, risen pressure due to the higher costs and executive turnover, it seems some big challenges lie ahead for Oprah.
Last year, as Oprah Winfrey was seen making attempts to set up rewarding deals for her new TV network. She negotiates personally with the Comcast executives, who are the nation’s biggest cable operator. She even traveled to the company’s headquarters in Philadelphia hoping to rub a little of Oprah magic. The purpose was to generate handsome fees for her combined undertaking with Discovery Communications. But if sources are to be believed, she was only snubbed by the Comcast executives. After that, Oprah did not attend any other meetings.
Oprah Winfrey, known as the queen of daytime TV, returns to television with the start of her weekly interview show, on Jan 1. With the losses mounting, insiders and observers were beginning to wonder how long Oprah or discovery will stay in the ruthless effort to make OWN take off. The channel ahs managed to get some rich pacts with advertisers like Procter & Gamble and General Motors that agreed to a $100 million sponsorship deal, to a show personally hosted by Winfrey.
Analyst presume, that Oprah should cover at least some of the running costs of OWN. Right from the start, it seems Oprah has bitten in to more than she can handle. She launched the network while still hosting her Oprah show. And it’s hard to begin without a library. It will be tough to for OWN to produce almost all original shows.
It is about seven months after saying good bye to her iconic Oprah show, Winfrey is all set to return to the small screen and will host a primetime series titled "Oprah's Next Chapter" on OWN.
